SORUBIM
THE TIGER CATFISH
Pseudoplatystoma is a genus of several South American catfish species of family Pimelodidae. The species are known by a number of different common names. They typically inhabit major rivers where they prefer the main channels and tend to stay at maximum depth, but some species can also be seen in lakes, flooded forests, and other freshwater habitats. They have robust bodies, and are important food fish.

Environment
Inhabits a vatiety of biotopes, from large rivers and lakes to areas of flooded forest. Supposedly it’s often found in more sluggish habitats than many large Pimelodids.

Distribution
Has a very wide natural range. Confirmed populations exist in Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, and Argentina. Occurences in Paraguay and Uruguay are apparently unconfirmed.

White Tiger
The barred sorubim or tiger catfish can reach upwards of 4 feet in length and weigh 100 pounds (20 is more the average). Like piraiba and the pirarara, tigers are often caught on cut fish like piranha.
Sorubim lima is widely distributed throughout most of South America east of the Andes mountain range, including the Amazon, Orinoco, Paraná and Parnaíba river drainages. It is syntopic with S. elongatus in the Orinoco basin and with S. elongatus and S. maniradii in the upper Amazon drainage of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia.
